The Stories We Could Tell

Wagner World in Portland

No, Wagner World is not an amusement park, or at least not in the traditional sense. David and Jodi Wagner are friends of ours in Santa Barbara who lived in Portland for a few years and put together their ideal one day site seeing agenda for us. And not just a few places to see. No, no…this was a recommendation for a breakfast place, site seeing plans, a lunch recommendation, more site seeing, and then a nice dinner at a place that brews their own beer. This all came in an email complete with URLs and addresses for Google Maps. We were very thankful and thoroughly flattered and, of course, we followed their advice almost to the letter. Here’s how the day went down:

  • Breakfast at Cup and Saucer
  • Coffee at Stumptown
  • Drive to East along Columbia river, enjoy views
  • Stop at Bridal Veil Falls
  • Go on to hike Onienda Gorge, Ponytail Falls, Triple Falls (5 mile loop)
  • Lunch at Celilo (near Hood River)…we skipped b/c we were still full from a huge breakfast
  • Check out Hood River kite boarders and windsurfers
  • Drive to Timberline Lodge at the top of Mt Hood
  • Enjoy views
  • Drive west to Vancouver, WA
  • Dinner at McMenamins on the Columbia
  • Go back to trailer and fall into a deep sleep – you’ve earned it!

Dave and Jodi, you rule!  We had an amazing day and really enjoyed seeing more of the greater Portland area.
