The Stories We Could Tell

Vancouver: It’s a Grind!

Ahhhh the Grouse Mountain Grind! A grueling hike that locals lovingly call “Mother Nature’s Stairmaster.” I would prefer to call it 86 minutes of Hell. Challenging is an understatement. The rugged trail is short (1.8 miles) but steep (by the time you reach the top you climb a staggering 2,800 feet). James was a pro bouncing up the steep climb, but I was recovering from being sick and had a hard time keeping up with his fitness prowess. The record was set in 26 short minutes… we had only hit the 1/4 mark in that time… a bit discouraging. The route up is lined with posters of children who are fighting diseases in Children’s Hospital. Their inspiring stories help give you the extra motivation needed to make it to the top. Once you arrive, the views are well worth the trip. Thankfully, the only way down is via gondola…. I don’t think I could have made it another step!
