The Stories We Could Tell

Ridgway is simply beautiful. We stayed at a state park overlooking the Uncompahgre River – snow-peaked mountains in the background, full green pines lining the canyons. Awesome. The river happens to be raging and full right now because the snow began melting less than two weeks ago.

Side note: I (Bria) have had a hard time relaxing on our trip thus far. Not really sure why, but I just couldn’t seem to slow down. Maybe it was the speed of the river, or the familiar sound of rushing water (hello So. Cal beaches), but the river slowed me way down. For the first time on the trip we spent the whole day just sitting outside reading, napping, swatting mosquitoes. It was glorious.

We decide to stay in Ridgway as it was a midpoint to drive to Telluride and Ouray. They are also both beautiful towns (so far Colorado is the bomb). The drive past Ouray is a famous one called the “Million Dollar Highway.” The scenery along the drive is superb. But the drive is barf-inducing. Hairpin turn after hairpin turn with no guardrail keeping you from a several hundred foot plunge to the Canyon floor. Hello white-knuckles…. but well worth it!

  1. Oh yes, The Million Dollar Highway! Ken and I drove this, or rather Ken drove and I shrieked, “Move over, move over!” It was awesome. Telluride, Ridgeway, and Ouray were all magnificent. Don’t we have a beautiful country?! I’m so glad you two are getting to experience it together. Take more of those naps; they’re refreshing. Love you both.
